Airberlin joins oneworld

Summary
Airberlin successfully joins oneworld today. The second biggest airline in Germany brings an extensive network into the alliance which now triples the number of German cities served, as well as offering new destinations in Iceland (Reykjavik-KEF) and Iraq (Arbil-EBL).
Austria's NIKI, a member of the airberlin group, also joins oneworld as an affiliate member.
oneworld's full range of services and benefits will now be offered by both airlines, including FFP 'earn and burn' and tier status points. BA's Gold
(Emerald) and Silver (Sapphire) card holders are now able to use Airberlin's lounge facilities.
Airberlin offers a single-class cabin on shorthaul routes with complimentary snacks and non-alcoholic beverages, (alcoholic drinks are served complimentary on German domestic routes). It is also possible to book and pay for gourmet meals on flights that are over 60mins.
On longhaul routes, the airline offers a premium Business cabin with wider seats that have a 137cm pitch and tilt upto 150 degrees, gourmet meals and drinks, exclusive airport check-in, an extra cabin bag allowance (up to
10kg) and 2 piece baggage allowance (applicable from May 2012). Economy passengers are offered complimentary meals, snacks and non-alcoholic beverages.
Airberlin will move to it's new Berlin hub at Brandenburg Airport, together with British Airways, from 3rd June 2012. Dusseldorf, Palma de Majorca and Vienna are also main hubs.
